Welcome to IS Ruhr - an international school, authorized by the German ministry of education |

| Dear Parents and Students,
I am very excited to be the Founding Director of the International School Ruhr. With over 35 years as an international teacher and director in Australia, Africa, Asia, Europe and the United States I now have the opportunity to bring all that I have learned about international “best practice” to IS Ruhr, where we are committed to providing an exemplar international education for your children.
I understand that this is a new step for your family, and we are prepared to assist you in every way that we can. The challenges and opportunities of a small, caring, exciting and rigorous educational program await you. Faculty, students and parents will come together for active engaged learning, committed to the development of the whole child rooted in climate of mutual respect, with a strong commitment to autonomous and inquiry based learning. We are completely dedicated to ensuring we prepare our students for global living in the 21st century in a secure, safe and happy learning environment.
The IS Ruhr faculty and I will strive to insure the inclusion and adjustment of all who enter our school. We strive to provide every student with direction and inspiration as we guide and support them in their learning and in their personal development and educational goals. Once again I personally extend to a warm welcome to IS Ruhr - a great place to grow and learn.

School Days, School Days, dear old golden rule days! The first day of school for IS Ruhr students began with a morning assembly. Students, parents and teachers gathered in the multi-purpose room for introductions, songs and games. It was a super way to start our first day in our beautiful new environment. Students in grade one were given the traditional “Schultüte”. Following our first assembly IS Ruhr students headed off to their classrooms for a busy day of growing and learning. On August 17, 2010 our students in Preschool ¾ will join us. We invite any interested parents and companies to come for an Open Day, September 15, 2010 from 8:15am-12:00am. We have also schedule and information evening on September 23rd @ 19:00. IS Ruhr welcomes visitors at any time just give us a call and make an appointment. (16/08/2010) Director's blog The opening ceremony is finished, the books are here, the teachers are busy and we are all excited and looking forward to August 16th, when we open our doors to our students and parents. We have been anticipating this day for many weeks and I am so glad to know that we will soon have lots of children’s chatter reverberating through our halls, along with singing, and laughter and I am sure many giggles. We hope to see you soon at IS Ruhr “a great place to grow and learn”. (12/08/2010) |

The toilets are going in, the tiling of the bathrooms is nearly complete and there is a lot of painting going on. There is energy and excitement every day at the International School of Ruhr. Every morning when I walk through the door and every evening when I leave I see something completed and that means that all the many “to do” boxes are getting ticked. Teachers will be arriving in early August and will begin their professional development the week of August 8, 2010. We are all anxiously awaiting the first two days of school when on August 16th students in Reception (five year olds) to Grade Five will enter our doors, the bell will ring and school will begin. On August 17th our Preschool begins with our three and four year olds. There is still time to sign up for a spot in this wonderful new school, located in the heart of Essen. If you are looking for an exciting inquiry-based education, grounded in best practice where English is the medium of instruction, please make an appointment, and we will be happy to talk with you about our passion for educating children.
